Yesterday, we crossed 80,000 meals served in Houston in the past week, and many families still need help.

The stories are heartbreaking. This is the second major weather disaster to hit Houston this year. Some families were just recovering from the derecho when the hurricane hit.

One woman named Maria told us her home was destroyed by the derecho and was deemed unlivable by the assessor. So she and her husband were forced to move into a shelter. But that shelter lost its roof during Hurricane Beryl! Maria says she is broken, waiting for something to change.

Thanks to you, we have been able to provide Maria and many others in her shelter with meals.

Another family -- Melanie, Miguel, and Elsie (pictured here) -- had their home hit hard by the flooding and power outage. But they still wanted to help their neighbors. So they have been volunteering with us to serve meals.

We continue to reach elderly and assisted-living communities that went days without power or relief. This is where the need is often the greatest. We recorded this video with one resident expressing his thanks for the meals you are helping to provide:

No one expected this level of need in Houston. This has been one of the worst power outages to hit a major U.S. city that we have seen. I want our team to be here to help those who are hurting the most.
